From an alumnus giving up after-school time to
mentor young students to a new district resident already making
a positive impact on the PTA, BKW has many dedicated school
community members to be proud of. Those people were honored
October 21 at the Board of Education Recognition Awards
Ceremony.
The full list of honorees are as follows:
James Sawyer
James volunteered to assist with the after school karate program
for 9 years.
He attended every session and helped a number of children,
specializing in assisting children with challenges. He has never
received recognition for this exemplary service.
James always gave his best to the students. In karate, as a 3rd
degree black belt, he demonstrated that hard work and dedication
leads to achievement. James graduated this past June, overcoming
many obstacles to do so. James is not only a fine young man but
also a role model for younger students.
Lisa Achenbach, Rachel Empie, Danielle
Schneible
Anyone who has worked with Middle School students or is a parent
of a Middle School student you know how unique and entertaining
middle school students can be. As a result of the unique
challenges Middle School students present, a core group of three
teachers became instrumental in developing the PBIS program.
PBIS, or Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies, clearly
explains school expectations for students, outlines consequences
for infractions yet also promotes student achievement,
accomplishments and student morale. Lisa Achenbach (left), Rachel Empie
(second from right)
and Danielle Schneible (right) have conducted training for teachers,
students and parents and continue to develop the fundamentals of
the program, which continue to make the program a success.
Anna Lefkaditis
Anna (second from left in picture) has become an integral member of the BKW PTA, and is now a
co-vice president of the PTA. She has initiated new programs,
organized and run several PTA events, and researched many
companies to try to provide BKW with the best products to meet
our school’s needs. Anna is very devoted to putting the students
first. She is kind to everyone and attempts to make everyone
feel welcome and appreciated. Anna is a team player and she has
a level head when making decisions. She gives more then her
share of time to helping make the BKW PTA a better organization.
Anna’s family was new to BKW last year. From the time she moved
here, she has been very involved in all areas of our school
community.
