Galgay is one of 34,000
nationwide to receive award

— The Berne-Knox-Westerlo
Secondary School is proud to recognize senior Michael Galgay for
being named a 'Commended Student' in the 2010 National Merit
Scholarship Program.
Galgay is one of 34,000 students in the nation recognized for
their exceptional academic promise. As a Commended Student,
Galgay placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5
million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the
2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“We are so happy for Michael and proud of his truly remarkable
achievement,” said Secondary School Principal Thomas McGurl.
“Michael shows us every day that he truly deserved such a
distinction through his work ethic, his involvement in school
activities and his positive, well-rounded character.”
Galgay currently maintains a 98.08 grade point average while
participating in BKW athletics as a member of the Varsity
baseball and soccer teams. He is also a member of the National
Honor Society’s BKW chapter. In addition, Galgay has
participated in the Cape Cod Baseball League and Eastern New
York Travel Baseball as a member of the NYCD Knights. An avid
skier, Galgay has also competed as an FIS (Federation
International de Ski) ski racer.
